My First Job Interview

Although "My First Job Interview" is not an overly creative blog post title, I hope this will be entertaining. I wanted to tell someone about my job interview experience (and vent!!), and you are the lucky recipients!

Basically, I need a job so that I can have money to live. I have had multiple jobs in my life, but none of them have required a job interview. I am more the "self- employment" type. :) I obsessively check the BYU employment website each day, and I apply for any job that I find interesting.

My cousin works in the Student Leadership office at BYU. One day, I noticed an opening in that office available and I quickly applied. A few days ago, my cousin (Jenni) called me and set up a time for a phone interview. I was excited that I even got an interview, because I have applied for quite a few jobs, and I have not heard back from any of them! Sadly, the interview times were all on Wednesday (today), and I had plans to go shopping in Idaho Falls. I agreed to a Wednesday phone interview appointment anyways, and thought it would all work out just fine.

Today we were in Walmart and 10 AM was approaching. I rehearsed possible questions last night, and I even had notes I could look at during the interview. I went out to the car and waited for the dreaded phone call. That was the first mistake. Sitting in the car in the middle of summer w/o the air conditioning on is a bad idea! Besides that I was EXTREMELY nervous, and by the end of the 14 minute phone call I was super hot and sweaty. The interview itself started out pretty well, but the questions caught me off guard. I didn't know the answers to some, and I didn't think (because I was nervous) before I answered others. It was bad! To make it worse, my cousin is part of the interviewing process, and even asked me questions! I was disappointed with myself when it all ended, but I was glad for the job interview experience, and they hadn't told me "no" yet so there was still hope. After the phone call ended I noticed a mysterious pain in my arm. The only thing I can think of is that I was so nervous I gripped the phone a little too tightly! (It still hurts over now...12 hours later!)
They told me they would make a decision later today and let me know either way. I waited all day for a phone call. It never came. I figured it had been so bad, they had just sent an email that said "no." I was dreading coming home to read it, but at the same time relieved because I would know. I came home from IF, checked my email, and there was no mail! I really wish they had already decided, and let me know because then I would not be worried about it all night. I know that whatever happens is for a reason. I would really love this job, and I think I would be good at it with a little practice. I just hope that I didn't make a total fool out of myself on the phone and that there is still hope.

Thanks for listening to me tell my story and vent. I am probably overreacting. I always think I do worse than I really do. I will let you know what I find out.

In other news: My sister told me my pale/white skin would have been in fashion 200 years ago when women walked around with parasols to shade themselves. YES!!! I didn't know whether to feel good about being "fashionable" or offended. I am leaning toward being offended. :) ~~Laura
