That one time we all almost DIED...

I got the vibe that I was responsible for putting this up for like memories sake so I will. Also it will come in handy when I get around to putting it in my journal besides I need something to do while my pain killer kicks in. So for anyone unfortunate enough to miss out on our extreme experience at Cole's Pond (technically Cole's grandpa's pond) let me set the background. So after Moriah's little going away party on Friday, there was talks of a party on Monday (today). Well it came together and the plan was to head out to the pond and has some water recreation and campfire bonding. Things went basically according to plan (even me almost drowning, I think that may have been subconsiously part of the plan from the get go but thankfully Cole saved me from a potential watery grave). So things were going splendidly until there was a freak hurricane in Lyman. It started all softly and we casually relocated to the covered pavillion. The storm suddenly intensified into this freak category five hurricane. We moved farther back to where there was some walls for additional shelter. I personally, could barely hear anyone over the whipping wind and the extreme rain on the metal roof. I went out and sat on the dock and then sat in the swing for a while. The rain stung and was cold but I can't stand when I can't hear conversations so it was better than constantly asking "What did you just say?" The rain continued in this manner for well over 20 minutes (probably some sort of record for Idaho). Thankfully it eventually ended and oddly enough the fire was still going. We move back out to the fire chat and make smores. About an hour or two later I started noticing really light rain drops and then the wind picked back up suddenly. The fire didn't respond well to this and basically everybody got hit with some embers. We all get kind of freaked out and decided that we should probably leave the pond for the night before we all died. Everyone was running around and putting stuff away and gathering their belongings. Now let me say this, if you weren't there you may think that we are wussies and that a little wind isn't bad at all. I don't have specific wind gust numbers but I do have this. I was carrying a chair back to the pavillion and decided that I should grab my keys off the bench before they blew away. I got the keys and then I heard a loud bang. So did everyone else. Several yelled out "what was that?". I said that it might have been the chair that I abandoned to get my keys and that maybe a wind gust carried it somewhere. I unlocked my car to put some stuff in it (which results in the headlights turning on, yeah be jealous) and that moment was one of the weirdest of my life. It was a mix of dumb struck, terrified, disbelief and later thankfulness. My headlights showed that what we were dealing with was no camp chair. The CANOE from earlier had been blown by the wind over 100 feet and now sat in front of my car. I anounced my discovery and come to find out that the canoe flew right over Logan's head and could have decapitated her (which would be very BAD).  Well the canoe was carried back to its place and we all moved the remainder of the evening to Rachel's house. I will say this- we are freaking lucky. Maybe it is my inner drama queen but I would say that things could have ended pretty badly for us tonight.

unfortunately the post needs to be amended. The canoe didn't hit my car at all, it did however hit Moriah's car :(
